The Ridge 1ST DAY, SATURDAY

14.00: Welcoming you at the Otopeni Airport.
14.00 -15.30 Check-Out, Introduction, short presentation of your Romanian trip and leaving the airport at 15.30.
15.30 - 20.30 Transfer by car from the Bucharest Otopeni airport to Sighisoara, where Vlad Dracula was born (250 km). Have lunch on the way to Sighisoara.
- Arrive in Sighisoara at 8.30 p.m.
- Leave the car and luggages in a pension in Sighisoara area.
21.30: Having dinner in Sighisoara

Accommodation in a pension in Sighisoara.
Highlights: View over Bucegi Mts, Fagaras Mts, seen from away, then Sighisoara Citadel.

2ND DAY, SUNDAY

Sighisoara Highlights


9.00 wake up,
9.30 breakfast
10.00 - 13.00 Walking in Sighisoara. (Sighisoara, first attested in documents from 1280, is the only still inhabited medieval citadel in Europe). Visit the clock tower, the wooden stair. View of the towers, the old church.
13.30 - having lunch in Sighisoara
14.30 - 20.00 Continuing our visit in Sighisoara Medieval Town.
20.00: having dinner in Sighisoara
21.00: accommodation in tourist pension in Sighisoara.
Sightseeing objectives: Sighisoara medieval city

3RD DAY, MONDAY

Transfer by car through Vatra Dornei.

8.00 wake up
8.30 Breakfast at the pension in Sighisoara.
9.00 Unpacking and leaving Sighisoara. Going to Vatra Dornei spa (~300 km) Driving time: ~ 5 hours
13.30: Stop for a lunch
18.00 Pitching the tents in the Vatra Dornei area (Moldovita)
20.30: having dinner from our own luggages.

Sightseeing Objectives: The Ridges of Calimani Moutnains, Ceahlau, seen from away. Nice landscape of this hilly region.

4TH DAY TUESDAY

River - rafting on Bistrita River.

  • Level rate: It's a medium river-rafting tour
  • Rafting time: ~ 3 hours.
7:30: wake up
8:00: breakfast
8:30: leaving our camp, heading to Vatra Dornei, where we'll meet our rafting instructor.
9:00 - 9.30: transport to the departure place of the rafting tour. (~30 km)
9:30 - 10.00: preparing and last rafting instructions.
10:00 - 13.00: river - rafting on Bistrita River.
13:00 - 18.00: walking on the mountains here. Return to our base camp.
18:30: Preparing our dinner, arround the campfire.
20:00: Having dinner
Accommodation: tents on the hills arround Vatra Dornei

5TH DAY WEDNESDAY

Mountain Biking in Calimani Mts.

  • Level rate: It's a rather medium ride.
  • Riding time: ~ 7 hours
  • Sightseeing objectives: Beautiful view Rodnei, Suhard, Bistritei Mts.

Day Schedule:
8.00 wake up
8.30 breakfast
8.30 - 9.30 transfer to Vatra Dornei & preparing for the ride
9.30 - 16.00 riding the bikes on the mountains around Vatra Dornei Spa
16.00 - 19.00 walking in Vatra Dornei & transfer to our base camp.
19.00 - having dinner in a restaurant in Vatra Dornei.
Accommodation: tourist pension in Vatra Dornei area

6TH DAY THURSDAY

Visit the Moldavian Monasteries of 15th - 16th century.

Day Schedule:
9.00: wake up
9.30: breakfast
10.00: packing and leaving our camp, heading to the monasteries in Bucovina.
10.00 - 11.30 transfer to Moldovita and visit of Moldovita Monastery
11.30 - 12.45 transfer to Sucevita Monastery and visit of Sucevita. (~80 km)
13.00: having lunch on our way up to Putna Monastery.
15.30: arrival at Putna.
15.30 - 16.15 Visit the Putna monastery & Museum
Optional: visit of the wild animals' reservation next to Putna Monastery.
18.30 Preparing our dinner, around the campfire.
20.00 Having Dinner

7TH DAY FRIDAY

Hiking on Ceahlau, the most famous of the Moldavian Mountains.

  • Level Rate: It's rather an easy - medium hike
  • Hiking time: 5 (five) hours
  • Height difference: +1000 m
  • Sightseeing objectives: Beautiful view over Moldavian Hills and Mountains, Ceahlau, Duruitoarea waterfall.
Day Schedule:
8.00 wake up;
8.30 having breakfast at the touristic pension
9.00 - 11.00 Transfer by car from the pension to Durau spa.(~100 Km)
11.00 Start hiking in Ceahlau Mts.
11.00 - 15.00 hike up to Dochia area (Dochia monastery, Dochia hut nearby)
15.00 - 17.00: walking on Ocolasu Mare Plateau and back.
18.00: dinner.
Accommodation: tents on the Ceahlau Plateau.

8TH DAY SATURDAY

Hiking on Ceahlau Mts.

  • Level rate:It's rather an easy hike
  • Hiking time: 6 (six) hours
  • Height difference: +200 m. -1150 m
  • Sightseeing objectives: The Bizzare stones of Ceahlau, Bicaz Lake.
Day Schedule:
8.00 wake up;
8.30 having breakfast from bakpacks
9.00 Departure towards Toaca Peak (1907 m.) (Beautiful landscape over Bicaz Lake)
- hiking in Ceahlau Mts.
- hike down to Durau Spa,
15.00: back to the car and transfer to Tusnad camping (driving time 3 hours)
19.00: having dinner in Tusnad
Accommodation: bungalows. (warm water).




Ciucas

9TH DAY SUNDAY

Transfer to Ciucas Mts & Hiking on Ciucas Mts.

  • Driving time: ~3 hours.
  • Hiking time: ~5 hours.
  • Level rate: It's a medium difficulty hiking tour.
  • Sightseeing objectives: Landscape over Baiului, Grohotis, Siriu Mts.
Day Schedule:
8.00: wake up;
8.30: Breakfast in Tusnad Camping
9.15 - Leaving Tusnad, heading to Cheia resort
9.20 - 12.00 transfer from Tusnad to Cheia resort (150 km)
12.00: arrival in Cheia. Start hiking on Ciucas Mts.
14.00: Breakfast lunch at the shepfold.
18.00: arrival in Ciucas hut area, pitching the tents here
18.30: dinner.
Accommodation: tents.

10TH DAY MONDAY

Hiking on Ciucas Mts & transfer to Plaiul Foii.

  • Driving time: 1 hour.
  • Level rateIt's a medium difficulty hiking tour
  • Hiking time: 9 -10 hours
  • Height difference: +1000 m
  • Sightseeing objectives: Landscape over Baiului, Grohotis, Valea Stanii Gorges.
Day Schedule:
8.00: Wake up
8.30: Breakfast from backpacks in camping
9.15: Hike on Ciucas peak (1956 m. altitude) then, descending to Cheia, passing thru spectacular Gorges of Valea Stanii.
13.30: Breakfast lunch.
18.00: arrival in Cheia.
18.00 - 19.00: transfer from Cheia resort to Plaiul Foii hut area (~150 km)
19.00 -19.30: pitching the tents here in Plaiul Foii.
19.30: having dinner from backpacks in the "Plaiul Foii" hut area
Accomodation: tents.

11TH DAY, TUESDAY

Hiking in Piatra Craiului Mts. The North Ridge.

  • Level rateIt's a medium - difficult hiking tour
  • Hiking time: 9 -10 hours
  • Height difference: +1400 m, -700 m
  • Sightseeing objectives: Landscape over Bucegi Mts, Iezer Mts, Bârsa County..
Day Schedule:
7.00: Wake-up
7.30: Breakfast.
8.00: Packing and leaving the base camp.
Heading thru the "La zaplaz" area, hike up the "La Om" peak (2300 m.).
12.30: We'll have lunch here, from our backpacks.
Descend to Curmatura Mountain hut (1600 m.)
18.00: Arrive in Curmatura hut area.
19.00: Preparing our dinner
Camping here or stay in the hut, depending on the weather condition.

12TH DAY, WENDSDAY

Hiking in Piatra Craiului Mts. Piatra Mica area.

  • Height difference: +300 m, -900 m
  • Sightseeing objectives:From "Piatra Mica" view over Bucegi Mountains, Iezer Mts.
Day Schedule:
8.00 Wake up
8.30 Breakfast
9.30 Packing the tents and leaving to Piatra Mica. Hike up to Piatra Mica area.
Hiking to Plaiul Foii Hut.
13.30 quick backpack - lunch
16.00: arrival at Plaiul Foii hut.
Transfer by car from Plaiul Foii to "Valea cu Struti" Pension in Sirnea. (60 km)
20.00 Dinner at the touristic Pension here
Accommodation: turistic pension.

13TH DAY, THURSDAY

Visit Moeciu area, Bran Castle.

Day Schedule:
9.00 Wake up
9.30 breakfast at the pension
10.30 transfer to Bran. (~19 km)
11.00 - 13.20 visit Bran Castle and the Bran Open air Museum
13.45 - 15 having lunch in Brasov.
14.30 Visit Brasov City, the black church,
18.00 - 19.00 transfer by car to Predeal.(~35 km)
19.30 Having dinner here in Susai hut.
22.00 Accomodation in Susai hut (1200 m) or pitching the tents here; depending on the weather conditions.




Romanian Adventures

14TH DAY, FRIDAY

Mountain-Biking in Baiului Mts.

  • Level rateIt's medium mountain-biking tour
  • Total time:7-8 hours
  • Hiking time: 2 hours
  • Riding the Bikes: 5 - 6 hours
  • Height difference: +300 m, -900 m
  • Sightseeing objectives:Landscape over Bucegi Mts, Baiului Mts., Ciucas Mts.
Day Schedule:
8.00 Wake up
8.30 breakfast at Susai hut
9.00 leaving Susai hut
9.30 - 10.20 transfer by car from Predeal to Azuga (800 m).
Here the Mountain bikes wait for us. We'll hike up to Sorica (1500 m)
Following the Baiului Ridge, we ride the bikes to Secaria.
~13.00 having lunch from our own backpacks
18.00: arrive in Secaria.
Optional, continuing by bike up to Comarnic (+1,5 hours on road)
Transfer by car from Secaria to Bucharest (120 km).
20.30 Having dinner in Bucharest
