Cycling Tours

When it comes about cycling in Romania the only problem is the difficulty to choose from the numerous areas offering emazing cycling possibilities. Transylvania with it's Medieval Heritage (the XIII - XIV century fortifications in South-Eastern and the medieval citadels like Sighisoara), the Carpathian Mountains with the meadows, lakes the up and downs days, Bucovina with the painted monasteries of the Danube River are just some ideas.

If you want to real meet the traditional lifestyle, to meet local communities, to take the rythm of people in that area, cycling is the best alternative. You have decent speed, meantime you maintain yourself fit, can stop whenever and wherever you like and don't miss the numerous details that one can't see from the rush of a car.

Due to the enormous number of alternatives we only a tour idea, that might inspire. I talk about the cycling tour in Transylvania.

Our bikes are all new tour-bikes, checked before the tour, and provided with pump, changing tyres and basic repairing kit. Nevertherless you'll most probably have to fit the bike for your own size and style. Of course the luggage pans came with the bike.

If you preffer camping, we'll provide the tent, the sleeping mat and camping equipment, but not the sleeping bag.

While a cycling tour can take from 2 to 14 days, we noticed people enjow most 8-10 days long tours.

Level Rating

We consider as easy cycling tours the trips where most of the days you'll cycle for two to three hours a day, dedicating the rest of the time to taking photos, talking to the locals, cultural visits, relax.

Moderate trips are the ones where you'll be on the road for 4 to 6 hours a day, some height difference could appear making some parts more demanding and we'll might have to maintain a good "stroke".

Demading cycling tours. Well, guys, you could compete in "Tour de France", "il Giro" or "La Vuelta" ? Then that's for you. "Climbing" some hills, maybe even with steep slopes, long biking days, all this will let us (and most notably you) know if you're a tought biker. One demading biking tour is:

We provide the transfer from Bucharest (or other departure point) to the starting point of the tour, however we're quite flexible, so if you have your own transfer already we don't mind :) . For bigger groups we provide a car joining the group all-over the tour, but this is not our main way of doing biking tours, therefor you'll have to ask for it.

Our guides speak english, are very knowleadgeable about the places and the history and deography of that places and able to help you with the bike if some problem occurs.

Recommended gear

Besides the general gear mentioned in this page we strongly recommend a pair of biking gloves and a helmet (if you have your own helmet you're invited to bring it with you)

Best Period of year

In Carpathian Mountains cycling can be practiced from Avril to November. we preffer the very beggining of the summer of the beggining of fall, when the days are cooler, but there is still enough daylight.

Accommodation

We can provide accommodation in tents or guest-house, depending of your prefferences. The tent have the advantage of price and more flexibility (there are more places where we could camp in the middle of the nature) while guest-houses offer more comfort and less luggage on your bike. Combination of the two is also and alternative, but remember you'll have to carry the tent, even when you'll stay in a guest-house. It's on you to decide.
